Tetris DS (Nintendo DS)

Tetris DS (Nintendo DS)
In a nutshell:
The game that launched 150 million Game Boys is back with the first Nintendo-developed Tetris title in eight years, featuring six different game modes and a ten player multiplayer option.
The lowdown:
With a game that’s been around as long and with as many versions as Tetris it’s obviously difficult to think of what else to do with it. Nintendo’s answer is to fill the game with as many different game modes as possible, including completely new concepts like Push, where both players share the same pile of blocks, and Touch which is specifically designed to use the stylus. Best of all there’s a ten player multiplayer mode for playing against nearby opponents in wireless mode or a four player Wi-Fi mode that you can play against anyone in the world. On top of this the whole game is filled with cameos and tunes from classic Nintendo games, from Super Mario Bros. to Metroid, for that perfect retro cool look and feel.
Most exciting moment:
Going up against nine other opponents in wireless mode, watching all their screens on the top screen and then winning out as the victor of them all!
Since you ask:
The controversial “super rotation” technique, which allows you to infinitely spin a block before placing it, is actually the idea of the original Tetris license holders and Nintendo, and anyone else that makes a Tetris game, is contractually obligated to include it in the game.
The bottom line:
The best version of Tetris for years and another top Wi-Fi game for the DS.

Customer Review: Classic
Why do they always insist on fixing things that aint broke???
loved the old game boy tetris, got excited about this, but its not as good!
you cant save your high scores for all to aspire to, the game gets far too fast on higher level etc. good fun but misses the mark. fine make variations if you must but PLEASE include the good old original too!!!
WISH YOU COULD BUY ORIGINAL TETRIS FOR THE DS.

Customer Review: Useful, though occasionally annoying beyond belief…
Having read a couple of reviews, I was a touch hesitant about purchasing one of these, but went ahead and did it. I’m actually quite glad I did so, despite the hellish time I had getting the thing working. Here’s the rundown: The manual is awful. Truly, unforgivably awful. It’s partly incomprehensible, mainly as it gives menu names for functions when none are given on the system, and no pictures that link the what is actually happening. This makes it more than a little hard to follow. The menus on the DS are graphical, and bear no relation to either the titles in the manual (no piccies in the manual showing “what’s what” either) or their apparent function. It’s like looking at wingdings font in shorthand. You do, on the other hand, get used to them. The scroll function on the cheat list is slower than a sloth swimming in treacle. The software is buggy, and maybe require you to spend upwards of two hours getting the thing to update your cheat list (as you are advised to do by the unforgivably awful manual). However: It works. Provided you have the patience to get it up and running in the first place, you’ll be able to spend many happy hours cheating your way through your favourite games. Which is why I bought the thing in the first place. There is a large selection of cheats online. Huge, in fact. Just ensure you delete the ones on the cartridge first, then upload fresh ones for games you want ONLY! Otherwise the first five minutes of use each time will be spent trawling through games you either don’t own or have no interest in. It’s a little annoying to use, but hey, it does work (most of the time), and that’s what matters. It’s also probably the best known console cheating system out there, so you won’t be running short on new cheats anytime soon. Bonus.
Customer Review: Very disappointing ….
Installed it OK but a key icon is missing from the DS screen. The instruction booklet is completely unintelligible to anyone without a degree in computer science. So unable to add any new codes manually.
Cooking Mama (Nintendo DS)
Cooking Mama challenges players to use the stylus as a master kitchen tool to cook 76 real world dishes ranging from pepperoni pizza to cabbage meat rolls. Players use the stylus to chop, slice, pan fry, knead, grate, mash, peel and more. Under Mama’s watchful eye, players must first prepare ingredients, then combine, cook and present the final meal all via the touch screen. Players can even cool down dishes by blowing into the DS microphone.

Customer Review: Fun… while it lasts…
Yeah, Cooking Mama is a great game. When you start the game you get a menu: you can practice certain methods of preparing food (like slicing, cutting, saute, frying, folding dumplings…), combine two dishes from your menu to make it a bit more ‘fun’ if you are slightly bored, or you can play the normal game. I’d have to say, the best part of the game is practicing methods of cooking, as each is it’s own little minigame, some with different levels too. Think WarioWare Touched, but substitute random madness for cracking eggs, cutting meat, folding dumplings, coating meat and fish in flour, even guessing games (you have to guess what is shown in the top screen, and pick from a range of ingredients shown in the bottom screen). The ordinary game is where you can pick a dish (certain dishes unlock new ones, so you have to try them all!) and go through a variety of minigames in order to get a bronze, silver or gold medal (depending on the score you got) for that dish. In Combine Mode, you basically do the same, but combining the two dishes with a lot of your favourite minigames in each makes it enjoyable, and you can always combine two more different dishes if your bored. Cooking Mama is good, but eventually you get a little tired of doing the same thing over and over again. Although when I’m bored, I find it fun to pick up and attempt to beat your high scores. I’m currently aiming to get a Gold Medal in every dish on my Cook! Menu, which I’m halfway through. To sum this game up, I’d say: “Fun, but only while the excitement of preparing food on your DS lasts, which isn’t very long. If you can get this for less than ?20, then I’d say buy it, but it’s not worth paying more for it.”
Customer Review: Cooking? fun? why yes!
Who could have thought there would be a game based on cooking, but here it is , Cooking Mama. Cooking Mama is well, a cooking game, your job is to follow mama’s instructions and make various dishes of food to varying degrees of fail in my case and varying degrees of success for most people, but I still love this game for one simple thing, its different, yes you heard me correctly, different, there is nothing like it, except Cooking Mama on the Wii. This is a game that I will defend to the hills and I did buy it with my own money, ?20 brand new from my local Gamestation, and I can say it was worth every penny. You will get a sense of higher self when you can make a sandwich and get 100 points :).
