Customer Review: Best game system in the world? Could be.
The Nintendo DS doesn’t need reviews. It’s the biggest selling game system in the world right now and is number 1 in every global marketing territory. It was the first games console to successfully appeal to children, parents, grand parents AND gamers.
I’ve owned a lot of hand helds and home consoles and whilst I still feel a bizarre emotional attachment to the GBA SP I have to concede that this is probably the best console I have ever owned. The touch screen just works as a control system and it’s the key to the machines cross-generational appeal. Even my own reluctant Games Widow enjoys Brain Training, the new Tetris and Wario Ware. She said she likes that she doesn’t have to learn what the buttons do if she wants to play on the DS: it’s instinctive.
For gamers there are some absolute classic titles available. The DS entries into the Zelda and Mario Kart franchises are among the best both series have ever offered. Sonic and Bleach are much better on the DS then their home console equivalents and Elite Beat Agents is possibly the best music game yet released.
Also the DS is the only handheld system currently on the market with a battery life that will see you through a transatlantic flight. My DS also holds a charge much better then my PSP. After a month without touching it my DS still had several hours of power but my PSP runs flat when left alone for a few days.
The DS is quite possibly the best system Nintendo have ever made. It certainly has an excellent library of games that will provide years worth of fun for kids and adults alike. I recommend it over any other game system currently available.

Customer Review: A bit too easy
My missus bought this game a couple of weeks ago as she fancied a cartoony racing game. She wasn’t particularly impressed with it. I’ve had a play with it too and if I had played the original on the N64 then I might have pangs of nostalgia which added warmth for the game - but I didn’t and was left a little cold by it. My main gripe with it is that it is too easy. The first time I picked it up I did a quick race, managed to take the lead after a few seconds and got stuck at the side of a tunnel/bridge. I reversed a few times and got myself back on the track - still in 1st! There was no challenge. I got a few boosts and used them to extend my lead. I’m not even that great on racing games usually (I thought I was good on Mario Kart until my mate Marc whipped me into the ground on it!). There are some good aspects - you can choose to race by road, water, or air - and the little planes are very cute! The power-ups are a bit different to those on other games - and if you collect several of the same colour you can increase the power of your power-up. But - I felt that I was getting into 1st and not really facing any competition. There’s no challenge, it was always going to be tough creating a driving game for a platform where Mario Kart exists (it is absolutely brilliant), and with there being no ‘thrill of the chase’ in this game, you lose any real passion for it after a few goes.
Customer Review: Does exactly what it says on the tin!
Like the other reviewer, I brought this game and feel that it does need defending. First off I love these kind of games…blowing up opposition and getting speed powerups to whizz past your opposition… As far as the game goes, yes it is great, the DS have captured it well with the driving in the top window and the map in the bottom. Ingenious idea for the starting grid…depending on which veichle you have will depend on what you can do. The car is just a simple up and down spin your tyres, The hovercraft is a circular aciton on the touch screen and the plane, get this….blowing onto the touch screen!! The only slight snag I have with the game is the lack of weapons, there is only the missile and the oil slick, but with the upgrading of these if you collect more of the same powerful does make it worthwhile. All in all a good solid game…my first one of the DS!

Customer Review: This is how sonic the hedgehog should be.
Isn’t it ironic that the best sonic title since sonic and knuckles all those years ago, appears on a nintendo console? This game has gone back to basics and ditched all the rubbish sonic clones and crap storylines and has just stuck with simplicity. This game is as fast as hell and you can pull of some sweet moves and there are some truly memorable moments. You get to play as sonic and new kid on the block: Blaze. which now brings me to the reason why i gave this 4 stars. The new character, blaze is simply rubbish, no way near as fun as sonic and could have been easily replaced by (my favourite) knuckles. when you select blaze, you just get to play the same levels with this character which lets the game down some what, because you get the feeling of being forced into repetition. Overall, a good solid sonic title, if you don’t have it, buy it now! it will keep you busy until sonic rush adventure!
Customer Review: Maybe I’m getting too old for this type of game
Remember spending many a happy hour on the Sega Megadrive guiding the little blue hedgehog through numerous levels of increasing difficulty, so approached this game with a degree of anticipation. How disappointed I was once I started to play. The level of difficulty from the off is absurd, as many have said the speed of play is so fast that there is more luck than skill in getting to the end of stage. Given that others seem to love this game it is perhaps time for me to hang up my red boots.
42 All-Time Classics (Nintendo DS)
In a nutshell:
Possibly the least obscure game title ever, this does exactly what it says on the tin with forty-two classics from chess and backgammon, to darts, poker, bridge and solitaire.
The lowdown:
The surprising thing about this game is that nobody’s thought to do it before. The games are split into three varieties of card game and two of board games, plus a selection of “action” games including bowling, darts and billiards. Playing the card games is just as easy as you’d expect with two screens and a stylus, whether it’s Old Maid and Pig or Texas Hold `Em and Bridge. The board games work just as well, with Chinese Checkers, Checkers (i.e. Draughts), Dots and Boxes and more. You’ll also find games like Turncoat (i.e. Othello), “Connect Five”, Ludo, Mahjong and Solitaire. You have got to go to some effort not to find something of interest amongst this selection.
Most exciting moment:
The best thing about having so many games is that, except for the ones that are purposefully single player, they can all be played online. If you’re playing against a friend you can even chat using a PictoChat style interface.
Since you ask:
The Japanese and Western versions of the game have several different exclusive games. Japan never got Texas Hold ‘Em, Dots and Boxes, Grid Attack, Ludo, Dominoes, Escape or Mahjong Solitaire but instead have Napoleon, Goninkan, Bozumekuri, Sugoroku, Size Game, Last One and Mini Golf in their version.
The bottom line:
The one video games compendium that really is for everyone. - HARRISON DENT
