Cake Mania For Nintendo DS Review

First Impression: I love cake! and I love baking! So Cake Mania, a game about baking cake seemed fun (maybe).

The Game: You start as a girl starting her own bakery so you can earn money to buy your grandparent’s bakery back from the dead. You have to make a certain amount of money each day or you lose a life. I learned really fast that by throwing away cakes and pissing off customers you lose lots of money and lives.

Each customer tells you what kind of cake you want.. shape, color and decorations.. and you have to make it in a fast enough time to please them. During special holiday months special customers come in.. like cupid or Santa or school children.. Some are harder to please than others. You also get special holiday cakes to bake.

In Cake Mania you buy upgrades for your bakery with the money you make.. like cake toppers oh extra ovens and frosting machines.

I played a few times. The first time my boyfriend said I was insane and should turn it off immediately, but I was determined to sell cakes. It’s not the kind of game you can play while doing something else.. you have to focus because of the time limits.

I played intensely for a while and got through 6 months of keeping my bakery open. Then the next day I got through the first year of my bakery and was then moved to Hawaii to open a new bakery. The third time i made it through two months in Hawaii and then lost my last life.. By this point I felt kind of buzzed from having to rush and make cakes for angry people.. so I quit.

Conclusion: Eh Cake Mania is ok. I read that it’s available as a free download somewhere.. (just Google cake mania free download) and you can play it on your computer for free.. I would recommend that rather than buying it for the DS if you are at all interested.. I’ll give it a 3.. interesting for some people for a single play.. but not interesting for long term play (how did it end up with two sequels??)
