Carnival: Fun Fair Games (Wii)

Carnival: Fun Fair Games (Wii)
Customer Review: One for young children, maybe but adults only? er, No!
My wife and I are not gaming geeks, just people who enjoy a bit of occasional fun with the Wii. With that in mind we were both very disappointed with this product. A lack of head-to-head action and the childish nature of the games lead us to suggest that as an adults-only package you’d be better off keeping your money. I personally find the animated “Mii’s” very annoying and the pre-gaming handset initialisation confusing. That said, I’m told by a few people that if you have young children it can be fun, however, we haven’t, it isn’t, so all-in-all very disappointing.

Customer Review: Not bad but not great
I went out and bought this game on the basis of most of the positive reviews on this page and also because it was cheap.

In summary the game’s ok but it certainly doesn’t deserve 5 stars, although this may be more suited to children who will probably love it.

The graphics are pretty good for what you’d expect, however the games are too short as you only get 3 goes at most of them. I thought this would be on par with Wii Sports in terms of multiplayer enjoyment but sadly it isn’t. Once I’d played all the games once it gets a bit boring.

Overall, a good game probably for more junior players, and not bad for a couple of hours for adults - so it’s up to you if you want to pay ?15 for a game which is ok for a short period of time…

Big Brain Academy (Wii)

Big Brain Academy (Wii)
Nintendo clearly learned a lot from the DS when designing the Wii, with its unique control system and ultra user friendly interface. It’s not just the hardware which bares comparison though, with Nintendo planning a similar range of unusual software, some of which can barely be described as a video game at all. Big Brain Academy on the DS was the less academic of the two brain training games released, testing your grey matter in five separate areas categorised as “Think”, “Memorize”, “Analyze”, “Compute” and “Identify”.

Only three mini-games have been shown so far for the Wii version, the first presenting you with three numbered blocks and a total that you have to reach by adding two of them together. Your job is to knock the one you don’t need out by wielding the Wii remote like a hammer. The second game is a variant of spot the difference, except with inverted and distorted pictures where you have to place the missing elements in the second image. The third mini-game displays two towers of bricks where you have to punch holes in one so that it exactly matches up to the other.

All three games are played against an opponent, which implies that all or most of the other games will be too. Since you can also use your Mii character this is certain to be a multiplayer favourite for just about anyone in the family. So even if it doesn’t improve your brain power it should at least ensure you remain happy in your ignorance.

Customer Review: A game YOU should add to your collection.
It is good fun and makes you want to concentrate in order to beat your previous grade. A week after buying it, I admitt that I thought it was a bit repetative but it is one of them games in which you play all the time then stop and then start playing it loads again. Multiplayer mode is great fun and trying to beat other students is great too. I bought it new for ?15 and I definitly think it is worth the money.

Customer Review: Great Wii fun!
I ended up really liking this game although so far I have only been able to play it on my own. The tournaments are very good and capture very well the atmosphere of a live darts game, the animations and ‘cutting’ of the sequences are very good although I found a few bugs (if you ever end up with 82 left, don’t follow the checkout that comes up, because it comes to 80!) The controls I found took a little getting used to, but after a short while it was pretty easy. I can understand why some reviews slate the game on this though! I like the fact that the control is very similar to the throw of a real dart (although it’s obviously a wii-mote.) To play by yourself would get very boring in a short space of time, but it’s going to take me a while to get to the end of the Career mode so I’m going to be busy trying. To have the extra games such as Cricket and Killer, where multiple players can have a go at the same board is great, making this a fun party game with your mates. All in all, it might seem like a boring game, but in my opinion it’s a great buy, especially if you’re into darts already!
Customer Review: Would rather watch Bullseye
I was really looking forward to this game thinking that it would work great with the intuitive Wii controls. To be perfectly honest I would rather watch bullseye than play this game. When you play a Wii game you expect the controls to be straight forward, hold the remote like a dart as if you was throwing a dart and then throw, but no that doesn’t happen with this game, it either misses the board or misses the place you were aiming at. The only positives I can give this game are that the characters in the game are very accurate and the commentating is spot on. Overall a game that could have been far better than it was.

Sumnique Nintendo Wii Innovative Controller Remote And Nunchuk Case (Black)

Excite Truck (Wii)
In a nutshell:
Nintendo are readying a brand new race game for the Wii and it’s not F-Zero, Mario Kart or anything you’ve ever seen before. Instead you’ll believe a 4×4 can fly!

The lowdown:
Every console needs a goodly number of quality racing games if it wants to really succeed and that’s not always been Nintendo’s forte. Excite Truck though is an attempt to create a game that marries the all out fun of Mario Kart with something, not realistic but at least less obviously cartoonish. Yet again the Wii Remote is used in a completely different way, this time holding it horizontally and rotating it left and right as if it was a steering wheel. The only other controls are accelerate and brake on the ‘1′ and ‘2′ buttons, although you will land better if you tilt the controller up while you approach the ground. Despite this purposeful simplicity it’s one of the better looking Wii games, with a huge draw distance and some impressive speed blur effects. It looks the part then, but more importantly it seems to play it too.

Most exciting moment:
A good lick of speed is always important in a racing game but this has got to be one of the fastest racers ever - and that’s before you turn on the turbo boost. To make things even worse (better) picking up power-ups allows you to deform the terrain, creating enormous jumps out of thin air that send you flying for what seems like miles.

Since you ask:
The name Excite Truck is a reference to the NES game Excitebike and its N64 update Excitebike 64. Beyond the name and the fact that it is a racing game though the two titles do not appear to have anything else in common.

The bottom line:
Nintendo’s first modern racer for years looks like a truck load of fun.-HARRISON DENT

Customer Review: Actually, really good.
Lots of fun. The tutorials get a bit tedious, but are worth doing. Simple controls, good graphics, great playability. Still really enjoying it 6 months after purchase.
Customer Review: The best racing game on the Wii by far
The Wii is currently seeing a flood of rushed, poor quality, cheap racing games appearing. Do not be seduced by their price, you get what you pay for. Excite Truck is worth every penny and is great fun whether you’re new to gaming with the Wii or a hardcore gamer who’s been playing for years.
