MySims (Nintendo DS)

The Sims 2: Pets has already appeared on the Wii, but it was just a simple port of the PlayStation 2 version with little real use made of the Wii remote. This though is a complete reimagining of the whole The Sims concept made exclusively for Nintendo’s consoles. The concept is largely the same as always as you take control of the lives of your own fictional family in what’s a cross between a video game and an interactive version of Big Brother. The graphics have been completely revamped, moving away from the pseudo realism of the older games and using a much cuter, cartoon style that’s somewhere between Playmobil and Animal Crossing (they’re actually modelled after a Japanese toy line called Pinky Street).

Naturally the game makes full use of the Wii’s controls with the remote used to pick up, rotate and drop objects and buildings with refreshing ease, while the nunchuck is used simply to move around. This is all in the aid of making the game as customisable as possible, from the characters themselves to their homes and furniture. Previously The Sims games let you build your own house or swimming pool but here you can design your own fridge if you want or bed, sofa or any other item of furniture. This feeds into the concept of having to do up your house and turn your virtual ghost town into a thriving village full of oddball characters. With Animal Crossing still some way off this could be the next big casual game on the Wii.

Customer Review: My Sims great FUN
MySims is a really good sim game where you create your own little sim and move into a town where you help out and in the end make it a tourist filled place full of shops.

You get loads of clothes to buy and choose from, do mini-games to earn the money and have your house to buy furniture for.

Very fun to play, even for people who don’t particularly like The Sims as there are a lot of mini games to play like making flower necklace things for the florist in town, paragliding, sky diving, dowsing, racquetball and much more! You meet lots of different people in the game along the way to making the town a better, funner place. I would totally recommend it!

Disadvantages: When the game ends there is nothing to do really, like you have no goals left so all you can really do is walk around town all day.

So far i have yet to find a fault with this game. It has proven addictive with endless amounts of fun. I completely agree that the sim interaction can be a little slow but there is no way im going to mark it down for that. I cant wait to play it on the wii!!!!

Pony Friends (Nintendo DS) Customer Review: Good pony game
If you like ponies or horses, this game is for you. It has excellent graphics and is very realisic. I like the horses, they are very calm and gentle. The scenery is very pretty too. In this game, you can care for, ride and stroke your pony. Of course you can do many other things, but these are the main things. Its hard to get money in this game, but I suppose then it lasts longer.

If you like action packed games, this isn’t really for you. Its an extremily calm sort of game, and doesnt require you to think much. I think the downside is that maybe its a bit depressing. The horses seem sad most of the time and you can’t realy do an awful lot. At least you can enter them in races though. ANyway, I’d say this is a general good game.

This is really cool! You start off by buying a pony. You can decide if you want to buy a real breed or if you want to make your own one. It is posible to have three ponies at once.

The trail rides are SOO real. The graphics are always good. Some people won’t like this game because you don’t get to steer the pony, but to be honest there are so many other things to do that you don’t really have time. You can take photos of animals and look for gates to unlock new trails.

A must for all pony lovers!!!!!!!!

Customer Review: Another let down customer
Like one of the other reviewers I saw on Dec 19th that this was in stock and available for next day delivery. I placed the order literally within seconds. Needless to say I now know the item was not really in stock - I got emails telling me it would be delivered before Dec 24th and then just before Xmas a message saying the supplier had let Amazon down and it would be arriving sometime in February. Lesson learnt Amazon - with no route to complain about an order placed when there was stock (I checked after placing the order and it was still showing as available) customers are forced to leave product feedback. I will continue to use Amazon for non-essential purchases. I trusted them to deliver and stopped my DS search believing I had bought an “in stock” item. Big mistake - made all the more annoying by Amazon’s refusal to accept messages FROM customers - it only sends them out or lets you read FAQs.
Customer Review: BEWARE NINTENDO DS USERS!
You cannot fault the Nintendo DS for its design and gaming experience, except for one flaw. It’s durability. I have had my Nintendo DS Lite for just over 12 months and hardly used it in that time, except to train my brain with Dr Kawashima. However, I am disappointed and annoyed that a crack has appeared in the hinge and a green dot on the touch screen, which is noticeable and distracting when playing games with dark images. It is literally just out of warranty and I will have to pay around half the price of a new DS to repair it. Ironically, the DS has not been man-handled but stored carefully in a carry case out of harm’s way. So as a word of caution, keep your proof of purchase so you can claim under the 12 month warranty should you need to. Otherwise, happy gaming!

Customer Review: Flippin’ useless.
Flipper Critters is a novel twist on the pinball theme. Unfortunately it’s a mess when it could have been good. There’s colourful 3D graphics spread over both screens, novel rotating tables with three sets of flippers in the middle, and the ball physics is pretty good. Sadly, the rest of the game is half-baked. The main problem with the game is that most of the time you don’t know what to do. The in-game instructions are vague and you lose most of your balls before you randomly stumble upon the next task. The bright graphics work against the gameplay - it’s difficult to tell the difference between scenery and targets. A lot of time is wasted pointlessly flipping the ball about scoring nothing. Critters doesn’t have any really major faults, but there are so many irritating niggles - far too many to list them all - that playing the game is more of an ordeal than a pleasure. Metroid Prime Pinball is a much better game. Buy that instead.

You might not see the supporting merchandise so much nowadays but Pokemon is still the most successful games franchise in history. Diamond and Pearl sold 5 million copies in Japan in under three months and 1 million in America in just one month, breaking all records for the year and the series. At first sight though this looks disappointingly similar to the existing games, with only a subtle 3D effect for the game world and largely static 2D battles. However the gameplay has undergone a complete overhaul, adding numerous new features and reintroducing others from Gold/Silver/Crystal, that had previously been removed.

The basics are still the same though, as you venture out into the world (called Sinnoh this time) in an attempt to catalogue each and every pokemon and battle the evil Team Galactic. Catching and training a pokemon for combat also works the same as before, although beauty and talent contests have been greatly expanded for those that prefer as little violence as possible. The game includes a day and night cycle, which severely impacts the appearance of pokemon, and you are given a new gadget called a poketch which starts as a simple watch but can be upgraded to everything from a scanner to a map. Secret bases are back and considerably more sophisticated than before but the most important new feature by far is the online mode. You can now trade, chat and battle with fans from around the world - proving that progress is not always just a case of better graphics.

Customer Review: A Handheld For All Ages!!
I got one of these for Christmas, I’m 23 and got the same present as my 4 year old nephew. But that’s the beauty of the Nintendo DS it really is for all ages. There’s no way my 4 year old nephew would be able to use or enjoy something like a PSP and similarly my 50 year old mother. The range of games is 2nd to non, from things like looking after a dog or a pony, to retro action with a true Super Mario Brothers, to sports games like Fifa 2008, to the ever popular Brain Training games, there really is something for everyone no matter how old or how young you are. The DS Lite is so easy to just pick up and use anywhere and I haven’t know a battery like it, it seems to last forever once fully charged. I highly recommend one of these to gamers and non gamers alike, no matter what the age there should be something for you!!!

This is basically a sd card, no more and no less. This is just a sly marketing trick to gather more money. Ive got the same brand sd card for wii for half the price. Just because it says its designed for wii, doesnt mean its only designed and compatible with only wii. It will work with anything and everything. Get a standard sd card, any will work with wii.

As mentioned by other reviewers, this SD Card is just a more expensive version of a normal SD card, you can buy a 2GB card for about ?5 if you buy directly from Kingston, who manufacture SD cards. Just search for Kingston 2GB SD card. My friend has an official Wii SD card and my Kingston card is just as good.

Customer Review: Good fun, well worth the money
Before buying I struggled to make a decision about this product because of some of the misleading reviews, I hope my comments help. One review said that when you fit the golf club attachment to your wii controller it would be the wrong way round, I was worried about this possible problem but it is absolute rubbish and I would ignore this incorrect comment. We did not have any such problem. I do not recall this being mentioned in the product description but as an option you can have the tennis racket attachment rim light up when you are playing (requires two triple a batteries), this was an added bonus and looked good. Overall I would say that these attachments can aid game play slightly but more than that they do add to the fun and realism of playing the games and I would definitely recommend to all wii owners. Note:- I would warn that Argos sell a similar sports utility pack that is much more expensive, i would advise not to purchase this as the quality is poor in comparison to this one from Amazon. Also if you do buy the version from Argos, and you are not happy, you will not get a refund as they have a laughable policy on this kind of product where they will not refund you unless the product is faulty.

I’ve only recently got hold of a Wii, and for a little while I’ve been playing games using the bog standard component / scart adaptor cable that comes with it on my HD (up to 1080p) TV. I guess I’m at a disadvantage to begin with, because seemingly anything that’s not 720i/p or 1080i/p looks blurry and terrible on my TV (due to it being LCD). After getting hold of this cable I noticed a substantial difference. The cable itself is usefully long at two and a half metres and only requires a simple change in the Wii settings to output using 480p. On my TV, things are still a little blurry but overall it’s a much more comfortable and viable experience. I feel that I can actually properly play games on it now Although I didn’t expect it to, 480p mode with this cable is in no way comparable to 720i/p or 1080i/p on an Xbox 360 and so if anyone thinks this cable is the answer to their prayers on that one, forget it. It is however much better and clearer than an SCART cable, as I found out by comparing Resident Evil on a SCART-equipped GameCube to the same game on Wii with this cable. (However, this is possibly not a fair test depending on how GC compatibility works on Wii). In conclusion, if you’ve got an LCD TV that supports it, I’d heartily recommend it as it does make a difference. Just don’t hope for a monumental leap in quality

I plugged the cable into my tv put it on the component input and no sound or video came out. Maybe it is just a faulty product or perhaps my tv even though it does support component. Its a pioneer pdp-427xd if anybody knows anything.

This is basically a sd card, no more and no less. This is just a sly marketing trick to gather more money. Ive got the same brand sd card for wii for half the price. Just because it says its designed for wii, doesnt mean its only designed and compatible with only wii. It will work with anything and everything. Get a standard sd card, any will work with wii.
Customer Review: Not worth it
As mentioned by other reviewers, this SD Card is just a more expensive version of a normal SD card, you can buy a 2GB card for about ?5 if you buy directly from Kingston, who manufacture SD cards. Just search for Kingston 2GB SD card. My friend has an official Wii SD card and my Kingston card is just as good.

Mario Party 8 (Wii) Although they love their sequels as much as any company, Nintendo aren’t usually ones to go in for yearly updates. The Mario Party series, developed by Bomberman creators Hudson, is their only example of the phenomena. As such, the series was always guaranteed to make an early appearance on the Wii - and with good reason too since its mix of board game antics and multiplayer mini-games are perfectly suited to the motion control of the Wii remote. Whereas some of the previous sequels have seemed a little unnecessary, this one actually feels like a brand new game. There are six new boards and fourteen different playable characters from amongst the usual Mushroom Kingdom pantheon. There’s also a new power-up system replacing the “orbs” of previous games with “candy”. These allow characters to transform into different forms to avoid traps and nobble other players, ranging from an airplane, to a bowling ball and a vampire.

Of course what’s most anticipated about the game is the 70 plus different mini-games, as usual ordered into 1 vs. 3, 2 vs. 2 and free-for-all games. These involve such activities as using the Wii remote to ride a water ski, tightrope walking, lassoing barrels, paddling a rowing boat with a partner, shooting on a target range and being the first to give your pet Chomp a wash. The games and presentation may all seem very cute but as ever the game is an expert at tempting you to cheat and conspire against your fellow players at every opportunity, making this the one family board game you won’t mind having an argument over.

When you’re playing one of the minigames, this is an awful lot of fun. There’s a very wide variety of games and all sorts of different ways to use the Wiimote are employed. Some games are everyone for himself, in others people are asked to gang up on a single player or play in two ad hoc teams.

Like many of the best Wii games, younger kids, older kids and adults can all compete on a fairly equal footing.

The but is a big one, though. Actually getting to the first minigame can take a good 15 minutes of setup and reading. And then the waits between games can be equally frustrating, particularly if you’re playing with a couple of computer opponents.
