The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night (Nintendo DS)

The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night (Nintendo DS)
Customer Review: Surprisingly fun to play!
To anyone who is curious, I imported this game from the US, when it came out. I was expecting a pretty rubbish game, since when I played a spyro game on the ps2 (Enter The Dragonfly), I found it was fully based on platforming and it was a bit boring.

This DS game is different though. This is just my opinion, but the developers really nailed the formula with this game. There is a perfect balance between an interesting story (with hollywood voice acting from elijah wood e.t.c), platforming, action, good level design and even simple but fun mirror puzzles.

Its just really fun to play - the levels are like huge arenas (and pretty gorgeous considering the hardware) in which you can jump, glide, breathe fire and attack enemies. There is a nice pickup system where red gems are for health, purple ones are powerups and so on, and this usually works well. You get to guide Spyro through several vast and well designed levels, while encountering a boss every now and again.

As well as standard melee attacks, you also get four magic breath attacks (fire, earth, lightning, ice), which I found impressive- also, they’re really useful for times when you are surrounded with enemies. Periodically through the game, you will get dumped in a medieval arena stage, which is basically a brawler level where you can try out different attacks.

The graphics are great! Picky people who are used to the ps2/xbox might not be excited but the fact that the game is fully 3D is a great thing for me, because it gives you much more freedom. The framerate is absoloutely solid most of the time, and the camera is jerky but just about bareable considering there are much worse 3D games than this! Trust me, considering the size and sheer amount of levels to play with, you most likely won’t be disppointed.

The only thing I can truly critise in this game is the save points. Unlike most other games, the issue of saving isn’t really mentioned. The game automatically saves for you up to a certain point, and usually this is a good thing, but some levels are pretty big so it might be problematic.

In conclusion, when it comes out, either buy or rent this game! If you like 3D platformers with plenty of action, or adventure games with interesting stories, this is a must have -, this is the best action based ds game I have played!

Oh I forgot there are 5 single-player mini games as well, which are a great distraction from the adventure levels.

Nintendogs Dalmatian & Friends (Nintendo DS)
In a nutshell:
The ultimate evolution of virtual pet: Nintendogs gives you opportunity to preen and look after a selection of cute puppies in a virtual home, with virtual currency, where you can buy toys and accessories for their enjoyment. You can clean the pups, feed them, walk them, play catch with them, and even talk to them.

The lowdown:
Nintendogs is brimming with character. Each pup looks out from the DS touchscreen and paws longingly. You can respond to your virtual pet’s need of attention by stroking the screen, using items such as balls and brushes with the aid of the stylus, and talking to your dogs through the DS’s inbuilt microphone system. Impressive 3D graphics give lifelike animation to these canine wonders.

Most exciting moment:
After a few attempts to speak commands into the microphone, your puppy understands the meaning of “sit”, barks approval, and sits down. It’s good to talk.

Since you ask:
You can keep three pups in your home at any time. When left to their own devices, they’ll play and play-fight together. And they call this ‘puppy love’.

The bottom line:
A Nintendog is not just for Christmas.

Hamsterz (Nintendo DS)

Hamsterz (Nintendo DS)
Customer Review: THIS IS A BRILL GAME !!!
Hi, I would say this is a great game you get to

1 pick your Hamster

2 name it

3 play mini games

4 feed your hamster

5 let it out of its cage

6 connect with your friends

And lots more I would buy this game.

Customer Review: Excellent - for very very young children
This is a very simple game. My child is 4 and a half years old and really really enjoys looking after the hamsters. Initially I thought she would get bored very quickly as she has nintendogs (and can play this well) which I think has a lot more to offer in terms of what you can do with your dog. However, surprisingly, she loves this simple game. This is definitely not suitable for the older child or adult who would get bored after learning how to use it (which doesn’t take long). THIS GAME IS MOST DEFINITELY FOR THE VERY VERY YOUNG CHILD AS ONE OF THEIR FIRST NINTENDO GAMES.

Customer Review: The Best Selling Console In Every Market
We owned an original Nintendo DS for two years - we bought it right when it released in December 2004. When I first saw the DS Lite at E3 in 2006, I was thrilled. The game great handheld unit design - but lighter! Brighter! Tuned! It really showed that Nintendo had been paying attention to customer feedback during those two years, and had tweaked its unit to be even better than before. First, the weight. We always *loved* the design of the DS, with its folding top. As PSP owners, I can’t tell you how many time that poor PSP screen gets dinged or scratched. We had to buy extra carrying cases for our PSP and get screen protectors. In comparison, the DS’s clamshell design means the screen is perfectly protected when you tote it around in your pocket or purse. The only down-side was that it was a bit heavy. With the DS lite, they keep the protection of the clamshell and also lighten up the unit significantly. It really does help a lot. The screen brightness - with it being *adjustable* - is an incredibly helpful update. Sometimes you’re playing outside in very bright light. Sometimes you’re playing in full dark, staying awake in bed. There are all levels in between. If you need that brightness, you don’t care if you’re burning up your battery power. If you do NOT need that brightness, why kill your battery for no reason? Having that ability to adjust really means that your battery works as best as it possibly can. We play several games that use the microphone, like Brain Age, and it definitely helps to have it in the center. Usually you’re holding the unit with both hands, centered on your face. To have your mouth pointed right at the microphone helps out greatly with those games. In general the DS system is a fantastic handheld gaming system. We have both the DS and PSP and we play both frequently. Many of the games on the DS aren’t available on the PSP and are a ton of fun. The Brain Age / Big Brain Academy / similar games stand out as games we enjoy daily. There are many other games that use the DS touch screen extremely well, giving a full interactivity of gameplay. Yes, the PSP has better graphics. It’s something that the DS compromised on. They have less detailed graphics, but more interactivity. Both are great for the games they offer. So for example we play flight simulator style games on our PSP, where the high end graphics matter, and we play puzzle / platform / thinking games on the DS, where the interactivity and plot is more key. I highly recommend the DS Lite for anybody who doesn’t have a DS yet - whether you have a PSP or not. It’s not an either-or situation. It’s like having a stereo and a TV set. They’re both great for their own reasons, and most people would enjoy having both. If you HAVE a Nintendo DS already and are wondering if you should get a Lite, it really depends on how much you use it away from home. The primary benefit here is the lighter carrying weight, smaller size and much better battery life. If you’re carrying it in your pocket, purse or backpack every day, I would really recommend getting a Lite. You can always give your original DS away to a friend or relative as a present, or sell it on eBay. The DSs are still in high demand and would be much loved by a new recipient.
Customer Review: The New Slim, Sleek, Silver Design Of The DS Lite!!!
This is great just like the old DS but in a slimmer, sleeker design! Silver is a nice change because the black, white and pink designs is what every gets so this is quite speacial (if you know what I mean)!!!! I give this 10/10 ********** (10 stars not swearing!)

42 All-Time Classics (Nintendo DS)
In a nutshell:
Possibly the least obscure game title ever, this does exactly what it says on the tin with forty-two classics from chess and backgammon, to darts, poker, bridge and solitaire.

The lowdown:
The surprising thing about this game is that nobody’s thought to do it before. The games are split into three varieties of card game and two of board games, plus a selection of “action” games including bowling, darts and billiards. Playing the card games is just as easy as you’d expect with two screens and a stylus, whether it’s Old Maid and Pig or Texas Hold `Em and Bridge. The board games work just as well, with Chinese Checkers, Checkers (i.e. Draughts), Dots and Boxes and more. You’ll also find games like Turncoat (i.e. Othello), “Connect Five”, Ludo, Mahjong and Solitaire. You have got to go to some effort not to find something of interest amongst this selection.

Most exciting moment:
The best thing about having so many games is that, except for the ones that are purposefully single player, they can all be played online. If you’re playing against a friend you can even chat using a PictoChat style interface.

Since you ask:
The Japanese and Western versions of the game have several different exclusive games. Japan never got Texas Hold ‘Em, Dots and Boxes, Grid Attack, Ludo, Dominoes, Escape or Mahjong Solitaire but instead have Napoleon, Goninkan, Bozumekuri, Sugoroku, Size Game, Last One and Mini Golf in their version.

The bottom line:
The one video games compendium that really is for everyone. - HARRISON DENT

Customer Review: Fun with friends, but not so good solo
I thought 42 All-Time Classics was enjoyable to play on multiplayer, and it was nice to play a game with single-card play and still have all of the games available, and my personla favourite being balance, or the various amounts of card games. A problem I found, however was that the game wasn’t enoyable when I played solo. I found that the stamp and challenge modes were quite fun albeit quite hard, although it was not as much fun as I had hoped and was excting. Overall I believe that 42 All Time Classics is very god if you play with friends a lot but albeit being fun it was not as good solo.
Customer Review: variety
this game has lots of variety to keep you going you dont want to put it down when you get bored of one game you go for another its not just cards its darts, billards, bowling and loads more would recommend this its my favourite so far

Pok?mon Ranger (Nintendo DS)

Pok?mon Ranger (Nintendo DS)
Customer Review: Good fun, but short
I bought this game while waiting for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl to be released in the UK, hoping it would fill the gap between the two release dates. Sadly, it didn’t. While this is a good game, it is also an exceptionally short game. I completed this game in less than a week, and without long stints of playing on it.

The game itself is fun, and simple to master - but it can get quite annoying and repetitive, which stops extended playing. The entire game revolves around circling pokemon with the stylus to catch them. There is no other mini-game involved, and other than using pokemon to access areas - that is the only interaction the player has - drawing lots of circles.

I did enjoy the game, but would have like a more varied gameplay, and the ability to save anywhere - as the game used save points, which meant at times, quite far into a level you either had to back track miles to get to a save point, or keep playing to get to the next. The game was also quite linear, and didn’t allow for exploration and playing outside of the plot line.

I would reccommend this game if you are looking for something quick and easy, but not if you want something to get your teeth into. Of course, for Pokemon Pearl and Diamond fans, you do need this game to get the Manaphy egg, which is available through a special mission once the game is completed.

Worth buying - but get it cheap, it’s not worth ?20+

Customer Review: Power Ranger… CAPTURE ON!!
This new departure for Pokemon games is a hybrid. A lot of the non-Trainer based trading games involve a variation on the Catch Em All theme, but mainly just to acknowledge you’ve encountered them and have limited use beyond that, as none of them are compatible for transfer to the mainstream collecting series. This is a vexation for many die-hard fans. On that front, Pokemon Ranger is very much in this family, with the main exception of the game’s hidden bonus. More on this later…

The game itself, as explained in other reviews, revolves around the player using the Nintendo DS Stylus interface to “capture” pokemon by encircling them in a continuous loop until they are bound in an energy sphere. The system shows how many loops are needed and give a countdown on each completed loop. As with the general Trainer themed storylines, it involves an evil criminal gang (The Go-Rock Squad in this incarnation) believing that corrupting pokemon to evil ends will allow them to dominate the world. Your job, more critically as a Ranger, is to rescue pokemon by recruiting wild ones to use their special abilities to help you.

The game is very good, though it does have its drawbacks, which is why I can’t give it a 5. The main gameplay is clearly aimed at a 9 yr old being able to draw circles, as missions are quite easily completed for the first half of the game. Encountering “boss” rescues however, such as the dragon types Charizard and Salamence, and the Legendary Dogs, all seem to exceed the capabilities a 9 yr old would have. Drawing 15 circles or 21 circles continuously sounds easy, but the problem is that the dragons fight back and wander off screen, making it very easy to spend 1/2 hour trying to draw circles and avoid losing health. Given that until this point most pokemon need 3-4 loops or in rarer cases 8, this sudden leap is significant. This is unlike Pokemon Link, which has a much more reasonable learning curve.

I mentioned the Bonus. I happened to buy this game first and then proceeded to hear more about the bonus after getting halfway through the game. Once the game is completed, bonus missions are unlocked. One of these is hidden and requires a special password and access technique found easily on the internet. Upon completing this mission, you receive a mystery egg which can be transferred to the Pokemon Pearl and Diamond games, once they’re eventually released. The Good News? This pokemon is ONLY available with this game in the current series and can be traded to either Pearl or Diamond using another DS. The Bad News? Nintendo have restricted it to being ONLY one egg per cartridge. Restarting the game seems to have no effect, so it is reported. Therefore, you need to be careful when this pokemon has been traded to the Trainer Cartridge games, as once its lost, its gone and you’ll need a new Pokemon Ranger Cartridge. Please note, Ditto creates a hybrid with the new pokemon, Manaphy, so it doesn’t clone it like usual either, so you can’t try that route either. People wanting to complete Pokedexes need this game!

I received a DS lite for Christmas and Sight Training was the second game I got for it. (The first being more Brain training). I defy anyone not to enjoy using this great little collection of programs, particularly the sports games. I am unsure as to whether using Sight Training actually improves your eyesight but there is much fun to be had trying to lower your eye age in a similar way to trying to achieve a lower brain age in Brain Training. The different exercises involve tracking moving objects using your eyes and using the stylus to tap objects on the screen. Others test your peripheral vision by flashing symbols in different parts of both screens and then asking you to recall what they were or indicate where they appeared. Your progress in daily tests is recorded and then plotted on graphs which can be compared with your friend’s profiles. The more you play the more games are unlocked. Overall, this title represents excellent value for money and is one to be enjoyed by people of every age.

Dual Charging Station (Wii)

Dual Charging Station (Wii)
Customer Review: what does the picture show?
Just about to get Wii and looking at charger unit. There appears to be 2 chargers out at present - another made by 4gamers and this one. Is this made by Nintendo or not? Also what is shown in the picture? Is the thing on the left a nunchuck and if so is it getting charged? Are there lights on the unit to show when it is charged? If is charging battery packs up what are the 2 white things in the left of the picture? Are these battery packs and do they replace what comes with the wiimotes? Someone out there help!!

Customer Review: It’s okay
My main problem with this is what a waste of energy, the USB connector means that the Wii has to be on (at least in standby) to charge the battery packs meaning that you waste energy powering the wii to charge the remotes. This is fine if you have 2 remotes and play 1 player games swapping the packs around but if you play 2+ player games and wear down the packs you’ll need to keep the wii on once you’ve finished playing until they’re charged which seems utterly pointless.

Other than that it does what it says on the box, I find it takes about 3 hours to fully charge the battery pack and the pack dies after around 4 hours but I guess that depends on the game you’re playing as to how much the wiimote is used. I’m sure there are better products out there that can be charged independently of the Wii, retrospectively I’d buy them instead as this will probably cost more in powering the wii than the extra cost.

I bought this at the last minute before Christmas to try and save on buying excessive numbers of batteries. Excellent decision. The batteries re-charge in less than an hour (making the point about leaving the Wii on during charging a little over-the-top) and they last well in excess of 4 hours. Ok it’s not made or badged as an official ‘Wii’ accessory but so what, it does exactly what it says on the tin and for a very reasonable price. To avoid overcharging and potential damage to the remotes, simply turn off the console as soon as they are charged. Simple!

Customer Review: Enhancement?, My ass!
I bought this wii adapter because i lost my other and after one week it blew up and fried my wii, causing me to get a replacement. THIS SUCKS SO HARD, I’D RATHER LET A DONKEY TAKE A CRAP IN MY EAT, OR EAT THE SKIN FROM A LIVE SNUNK THAN USE THIS ON MY NEW WII! (I don’t like it and you shouldn’t buy it)

Excite Truck (Wii)
In a nutshell:
Nintendo are readying a brand new race game for the Wii and it’s not F-Zero, Mario Kart or anything you’ve ever seen before. Instead you’ll believe a 4×4 can fly!

The lowdown:
Every console needs a goodly number of quality racing games if it wants to really succeed and that’s not always been Nintendo’s forte. Excite Truck though is an attempt to create a game that marries the all out fun of Mario Kart with something, not realistic but at least less obviously cartoonish. Yet again the Wii Remote is used in a completely different way, this time holding it horizontally and rotating it left and right as if it was a steering wheel. The only other controls are accelerate and brake on the ‘1′ and ‘2′ buttons, although you will land better if you tilt the controller up while you approach the ground. Despite this purposeful simplicity it’s one of the better looking Wii games, with a huge draw distance and some impressive speed blur effects. It looks the part then, but more importantly it seems to play it too.

Most exciting moment:
A good lick of speed is always important in a racing game but this has got to be one of the fastest racers ever - and that’s before you turn on the turbo boost. To make things even worse (better) picking up power-ups allows you to deform the terrain, creating enormous jumps out of thin air that send you flying for what seems like miles.

Since you ask:
The name Excite Truck is a reference to the NES game Excitebike and its N64 update Excitebike 64. Beyond the name and the fact that it is a racing game though the two titles do not appear to have anything else in common.

The bottom line:
Nintendo’s first modern racer for years looks like a truck load of fun.-HARRISON DENT

Customer Review: PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This game is just brilliant. I think how you have to move the Wii Remote to steer is much better than just hitting the left/right buttons, because it’s more energetic. It’s really hard to steer, but that makes it more fun! The best racing game I’ve ever played.
Customer Review: So Much Fun
This is one you should buy even if you don’t normally go for this type of game. I bought this for my partner who loves the more serious driving games and he is addicted to it. I’ve never enjoyed driving games but even I’m addicted to it because it asks you to do everything most other driving games don’t do - enjoy, smash into things, leap over bridges of some obscure Scottish Castle, fly over glaciers, smash through forest etc and it rewards you the more havoc you cause. There is no blood or gore, there is no commentating, no scantily clad bodies, no swearing and definitely no zillion options to complete before you start - you can just drive or if you want, take the very amusing tutorial. Definitely worth the money.

Customer Review: BEWARE
I purchased this on the box’s promise that it “works with any internet connection”. Not so! I connect through a USB modem, and the software supplied does not detect it. I am computer literate (I have a degree in computing science for goodness sake), and tried everything I could to get this to work. After some research, I found many many accounts of people with USB modems having the same problem. If you’ve got a normal ethernet connection, this will most likely work fine, but after my experience, I would NOT recommend this product. Do as I intend to do, and buy the official Nintendo USB connector instead.
Customer Review: Garbage
Don’t bother with this product, use any cheap USB WiFi adapter, your wii will pick it up, and after following the instructions for your wireless router you’ll be online in no time!

Customer Review: Great product, great price!
Having recently changed the position of my wii I noticed it looked a bit barron, having no support, which is also a worry for ventilation. I noticed this item flicking through Amazon, and thought for ?10 quid why not? Glad I did, not only does it make the console look very smart, the compartment allows me to have a little more room by sticking away a controller and nunchuck. The slot for the sensor is a bit pointless to be honest, but apart from that, very happy with the item.
Customer Review: Verty stylish console stand - Wii like very much!
Just received my Wii horizontal console stand this afternoon and must say that i’m extremely impressed with the unit. The stand is particulary usefull to me as although the Wii does already come with its own console stand when purchased, this can only be used for placing the unit in its vertical position. While this is fine if you have a room with plenty of shelf space, it does tend to pose a slight problem if you fancy using it somewhere where you don’t have as much shelf space such as a video cabinet. Personally I’m not overly keen on just lying the console on its side due to ventilation problems ect. Also another problem I have had since purchasing my Wii is that with all the Wii Remotes and Nunchuck controllers you need for multiplayer games when friends come round is storage space. I’m not particulary keen on just leaving controllers lying around the place. The Wii vertical stand has been designed to solve these two problems in one package. The stand is designed with a base plate which you slot your Wii onto and a handy tidy box compartment at the side in which you can place a Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Not only does this small side compartment help to save a bit of room and mess on your tops, but also both the box and lid have been carefully designed and constructed so they match the size and contours of your Wii console which means that when you put it all together both the console and stand lay perfect flush together. For me though what really makes the stand look totally cool is the official Wii logo on the front of the tidy compartment box. The stand is officially licensed by Nintendo and is manufactured in the same quality white plastic finnish as the Wii. I cannot recommend this stand enough, so if your looking for something to solve both storage problems and an alternative to the vertical stand available this should be perfect

Customer Review: Does the job, and is very fun
Though this is not the official wii zapper, it’s as close as you’ll get without infringing copyright. You can feel why it’s half the price as the trigger feels too thin, and there’s lumps and bump here and there. But seeing as you can’t get a wii zapper without link training, this is what to get. Though I only have one game that works with it (Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles) I enjoy using it allot. It is slightly harder for some reason, maybe just because i’m not used to it. Basically it does the job, is quite comfortable, and very fun. It only got 4 overall as the trigger is uncomfortable.
Customer Review: Very disappointing
I prefer the design/look of this versus the official zapper but the problem is that with the Wii remote fully inserted, the trigger simply doesn’t work. You have to open the retaining clip and lift the remote out of the gun slightly to get it to work properly. I’m guessing they don’t all have this issue as other reviewers seem to be happy with theirs. Maybe I was just unlucky! I’ll be returning this to Amazon immediately.

Customer Review: Get one!
I bought one in pink (for me) and one in blue (for the other half). I love them, this is the best deal so far. It is an official licensed product, and unlike the other manufacturer licenced to sell these for the Wii, this one includes a cover for the nunchuck too - which is what swayed my decision. It fits very well. No gaps, no bigger / smaller than required holes. Helps the remotes to stay in your hand, and made from a very soft and pliable silicone. it’s great. Get one!

Customer Review: Pointless piece of equipment
We bought on of these charging stands so that we would be able to have the remotes fully charged whenever we wanted to use them. The main problem with this product, apart from the fact that one of the charging stations doesn’t work, is that you have to have your Wii console switched on, not on stand-by, for the remotes to charge. Don’t know about you, but when the Wii is on it is because we want to use it NOT so that we can charge the remotes. We don’t think that it is a good idea to have the Wii switched on at all times. It is probably easier and cheaper to buy a battery charger!

Customer Review: The revolution has come and not a moment to soon.
Ok here we go the Wii is brilliant we all know that already, so i am not going into great detail about it as a piece of hardware just read the other 200 so glowing reviews for that, recently in the last five years or so the games market was stagnant with the games it was releasing, now i know some people will say ”there has been lots of good games in the last five years”, that may be true but most worked on the same principle as every other game before it, now again some would say ”i like that” really you like playing games that played the same as ten years ago with graphical updates, you see this is where the real gamers come in they appreciate innovation trying new things and not being afraid to be laughed at for and idea remember the ds pre launch ”Touch screen for games you’re joking right” look who is laughing now. This is why i like Nintendo not scared to do something different and as a result you get some really artistically brilliant pieces of gaming Mario,Zelda,Metroid the list goes on Nintendo real games for real gamers and none gamers alike.
Customer Review: Wii + Wii Sports
First off, if you are a serious gamer then dont buy a Wii, buy an Xbox or PS3, for the extra money you have superior graphics and gameplay and there are loads more games available than there is for the Wii. However, if like me, you are not into spending every night playing video games and just want something that is fun, easy to use and good for more than one person to play, then i’d say buy a Wii! I bought the console from amazon for 179.98 and also bought wii play (mainly for the extra remote, which is a must!) The actual console itself is small (same size as my Sopranos series 6 box set) which is great as it takes up very little space and is easy to set up. The wii sports which come with the console are highly addictive, the bowling and tennis are a hit with my wife and ive spent hours on the golf and boxing! although they are essentially mini games so are limited in the number of matches / holes / levels you can play. Overall i have to say i am surprised at how much fun it is playing the wii as i had heard many different opinions (mostly from people with Xboxes or playstations though!). If you are looking for something to keep you busy on the odd evening or something that you and your mates or partner can play then id recommend getting one.
