Puzzle League (Nintendo DS)

Puzzle League (Nintendo DS)
Customer Review: Surprisingly addictive
I bought this as something of an after-thought when purchasing `42 All-time Classics’ & I can honestly say I’m well & truly hooked. If you like puzzles & stuff like Tetris then you’ll love this set of games. Sit down for a quick session & before you know it an hour has gone by.
So easy to learn & so easy to lose track time: it’s great!

Charlotte’s Web (Nintendo DS)
Sega aren’t normally a company you’d associate with movie licenses, although they have just nabbed the rights to make games based on the Aliens movies. This though is a very different type of film, a live action adaptation of the beloved children’s book featuring an unlikely friendship between a pig and a spider. Unfortunately the video game is unlikely to remain as timeless as the book, especially since it’s taken the slightly perverse route of turning the whole story into a series of platform jumping adventures. Even though pigs aren’t exactly known for their gymnastics you take the role of Wilbur as he collects eggs and, oddly, letters for Charlotte the spider. For better or worse, Wilbur does actually handle just as you’d expect a pig too, which means he barely makes even the simplest of jumps, scrabbling cutely to make it onto a ledge.
Wilbur’s defensive abilities are similarly low tech, with an ineffective kick and a repartee of songs to send enemies running. Obviously the game’s limited by the settings of the original book and film but you do get the feeling that this really isn’t a story that makes much sense translating into a video game. In the end the best bits are the various mini-games, including a number of special touch screen games on the DS. In between platform levels you can get to pamper Wilbur, as Fern his human owner, in something like a mini version of Nintendogs… but with pigs. There are also several separate mini-games such as parachuting with baby spiders and a fun puzzle game with Templeton the rat. Even so a ticket to see the movie again is probably better value.

Customer Review: Charlotte’s web
I got this game of a friend and thought it would be really dull but it is actually very good! I like the mini games and the adventure is good too I can’t put it down. I am currently stuck on level seven though and would be grateful if anyone could give me advice how to get out of it. I am currently stuck up a tree!
Customer Review: Pretty Average
I bought this as I had got a ds for mother’s day and there wasn’t a lot of choice in the shop but I didn’t want to wait for internet delivery. Always a bit suspicious of games based on films tbh and this proved me right. It’s ok - there;’s not much more to be said about it. The mini games were also ok but after less than 2 weeks I have sold it on. I think for a child who loves the movies it may be worth getting but for anyone else I wouldn’t bother. A very average platform game.

Customer Review: Very well executed
Once you get over the slightly fiddly controls (I’m used to playing Mario Kart on the N64), there’s really nothing bad to be said about this game. Fantastic level design, classic Mario Kart gameplay, plenty of little goals to achieve. I’ve not had a chance to try out the wifi multiplayer, but I can’t imagine that not being brilliant. An easy five stars
Customer Review: Completely over-rated
This game is, as the title says, completely over-rated. For starters, it cuts through the battery life very quickly, especially if you’ve got the sound on. Because of that, I played the game with sound off, most of the time so I didn’t have to constantly charge my DS. I suppose playing with the sound off wasn’t much of a loss, seeing as the sound in this game isn’t anything special. The game gets VERY repetitive after a short period of time. Any half-decent gamer could complete this game in less than a day, easily. When you complete it, there’s nothing to keep you coming back to play it again. The graphics are just plain average, and are nothing too eye-catching. I didn’t enjoy the racing either, it was tedious and it got repetitive and too easy, really quickly. All you have to do is learn the AI’s racing line and the game becomes a lot easier, because you place items in their racing line, and they’re not smart enough to avoid them. The only reason I gave it 2 stars, is because it can possibly keep you going for a few hours, if you’re bored enough. There’s better things you can spend your money on, instead of this.

The Sims 2: Pets has already appeared on the Wii, but it was just a simple port of the PlayStation 2 version with little real use made of the Wii remote. This though is a complete reimagining of the whole The Sims concept made exclusively for Nintendo’s consoles. The concept is largely the same as always as you take control of the lives of your own fictional family in what’s a cross between a video game and an interactive version of Big Brother. The graphics have been completely revamped, moving away from the pseudo realism of the older games and using a much cuter, cartoon style that’s somewhere between Playmobil and Animal Crossing (they’re actually modelled after a Japanese toy line called Pinky Street).
Naturally the game makes full use of the Wii’s controls with the remote used to pick up, rotate and drop objects and buildings with refreshing ease, while the nunchuck is used simply to move around. This is all in the aid of making the game as customisable as possible, from the characters themselves to their homes and furniture. Previously The Sims games let you build your own house or swimming pool but here you can design your own fridge if you want or bed, sofa or any other item of furniture. This feeds into the concept of having to do up your house and turn your virtual ghost town into a thriving village full of oddball characters. With Animal Crossing still some way off this could be the next big casual game on the Wii.

Customer Review: a great game
MySims is a really good game. It was actually one of the reasons I got a Wii. I’ve never played the ds version, but even if it is really good, you should get the wii version aswell, or instead even. It’s ace! I saved up for this game and I wasn’t disappointed when I finally got it. It was better than I expected! Building the houses and collecting essences is fun, although doing endless tasks for the citizens of your town does get a bit boring. I sometimes get fed up after building a few chairs, because it hurts my arm after a whule. All in all its a good game and you should definitely get it! The concept of having a rundown town you have to make nice again is good for younger people like me. If you dont like Animal Crossing you shouldn’t get it though, because you wont like how similiar they are…
Customer Review: My Sims great FUN
MySims is a really good sim game where you create your own little sim and move into a town where you help out and in the end make it a tourist filled place full of shops. You get loads of clothes to buy and choose from, do mini-games to earn the money and have your house to buy furniture for. Very fun to play, even for people who don’t particularly like The Sims as there are a lot of mini games to play like making flower necklace things for the florist in town, paragliding, sky diving, dowsing, racquetball and much more! You meet lots of different people in the game along the way to making the town a better, funner place. I would totally recommend it! Disadvantages: When the game ends there is nothing to do really, like you have no goals left so all you can really do is walk around town all day.
